Due to low ridership, Pace Route 618 was discontinued on Friday, April 1, 2016. The route, which served the Grand & Western Metra Station and Union Station in Chicago, and operated express from Union Station to the Lake Cook Metra Station was designed to get employees in the Lake Cook area to work earlier than the first outbound Metra train which arrives at 7:22 am. However, despite several marketing efforts promoting the route to area employers, the route attracted few riders. Employees of Lake-Cook area companies have other options to reach the area for a 7:00 work time. They include taking the Metra Union Pacific North Line to Braeside, and transferring to Shuttle Bugs 8 or 9, or taking Pace Route 626 from the Dempster Yellow Line Station.
